  • What is a PD and how is it measured?
PD or Pupillary distance or interpupillary distance is the distance between the centers of the pupils of the eyes. This measurement can be done using a ruler. You can simply get a ruler, place it on the bridge of your nose, then be sure to close your left eye aligning the 0 mm over the center of your right pupil. Finally, close your right eye and open the left, then read the measurement directly over your left pupil. Sounds Complicated- but it really is not! PD usually lies between 54mmand 78mm. The average woman’s PD is 60mm and that of a man is 64mm. Please note that the PD is unique for everyone.
  • Why is the PD important?
It helps correctly place the optical center of the lense. If the PD is not accurate your vision will not be corrected using the lense. Be sure to ask the medical professional for your PD.
